Our top tips for first-time glampers

First off, glamping is not camping, our pods are kitted out with items that make them more comparable with a hotel than a tent! Many of the guests we welcome here at Bugthorpe Grange are having their first ‘glamping’ experience, but once you try it, you’ll never look back! As opposed to camping where you quite literally have to bring the kitchen sink, here at Bugthorpe Grange Glamping we have endeavoured to create some of the most luxurious glamping pods around and ensure that your stay is as stress-free as possible by providing everything you need from bath towels to cling film. If you are well-seasoned campers we’re sure you come to any holiday prepared for every eventuality, however, for those of you who haven’t camped or glamped before we thought we’d lend you a hand and help you create a packing list that doesn’t fill your car up to the roof with bags!

Our pods have been decked out with both luxury and practicality in mind, with ensuite wet rooms, well-equipped kitchenettes, coffee machines (with coffee pods and tea bags), free WIFI and smart TVs, not to mention our complimentary welcome hampers stocked with locally sourced breakfast essentials, these are always a hit with our guests. It’s probably easier for us to tell you what we don’t have rather than what we do have! So with that in mind, here is our list of ‘essentials’ that you might want to pack into the car for your first glamping experience:

Essentials to bring:

·      Appropriate footwear

Whether you intend on walking in the Yorkshire Wolds or strolling around York for the duration of your stay, appropriate footwear is a must. Given our farm setting (not to mention the extremely wet weather we have been experiencing of late!!) we would recommend that you bring some waterproof shoes such as wellies or walking boots just in case.

·      Outdoor gear

There are so many outdoor activities to do around Bugthorpe Grange, all the pods contain various walking maps both to do from the site and in the wider area. We also provide braziers and a complementary pack of logs (fire lighters and kindling also included) so the right gear to spend an evening around the fire is essential, although we do also provide outdoor blankets for the chillier evenings.

·      Phones, cameras and chargers

We provide a Bluetooth portable speaker (and charging cable) in the pod but other than that the ‘tech’ stuff is down to you so don’t forget to bring all your chargers with you. There are plenty of sockets dotted around the pod as well as USB ports above each bed. Additionally, if you’re a keen photographer make sure to bring your gear with you as we get a lot of visiting wildlife here at Bugthorpe Grange such as barn owls and hares. Not to mention some absolutely glorious sunsets so be sure to bring a camera along to capture the moment.

·      Toiletries

We are unable to provide any toiletries (other than hand soap) for your stay so make sure you bring along all your favourite products and indulge in a long hot shower in our ensuite wet rooms which are all kitted out with rainfall shower heads for a luxurious experience.

·      Passwords

Each pod has free WIFI and a smart TV so you can log in and stream through all your favourite services such as Netflix, Apple TV and Disney+. If you’ve got those passwords written down somewhere at home don’t forget to check them before you come!

·      Food and drinks

As we said, all our bookings come with a complimentary welcome hamper including milk, butter, bread, teacakes, jam, flapjacks, cereal, apple juice, tea bags, sugars/sweeteners, and coffee pods. You can also purchase breakfast and BBQ kits that we source from our local butchers (these must be ordered prior to your stay) which will be waiting in the fridge when you arrive! There is a Co-op approximately 10 mins away (by car) and larger supermarkets in Malton (15 mins by car), all the pods have a fridge and small freezer as well as an electric hob, pans and other cooking utensils so you have everything you need to whip up a storm in the kitchen during your stay.

What you don’t need to bring:

·      Bedding

Bedding and linens are provided as well as cosy blankets and cushions to make your pod feel extra homely.

·      Towels

We provide a bath towel per guest and hand towels for the kitchen and bathroom.

·      BBQs

We have quality gas ‘Outdoor Chef’ BBQs available to rent for the duration of your stay, you don’t need to book these in advance of your stay if you don’t want to. We have 1 per pod so there’s no risk of unavailability. We ask that you do not bring your own BBQs for use on our site for health and safety reasons.

·      Fire kits

As we said, each pod is equipped with a brazier, we provide a complimentary pack of logs as well as kindling, fire lighters and gloves, additional logs can be purchased from us on-site. There’s no need to book these in advance, just let us know if you need more during your stay and we can sort you out!

Hopefully, these tips will help you when packing for your stay with us, however, as always there will be things that get missed so we’re always happy to help you find what you need whenever we can!
