Bugthorpe Grange Glamping was born out of a desire to create a peaceful retreat in the heart of the Yorkshire Wolds, inspired by our love for this beautiful, often overlooked part of the country. Our journey to establishing the site was shaped by a passion for Yorkshire, a keen interest in the growing glamping trend, and a commitment to offering an alternative to traditional camping or costly holiday rentals.

Having spent many years visiting family in Yorkshire while living further south, we knew that one day we wanted to return to this stunning area. The idea of starting a holiday business had been in the back of our minds for some time, but it wasn’t until the growing popularity of glamping caught our attention that the vision started to take shape. We wanted to offer something unique—a glamping experience that combined the comforts of home with the rustic charm of the countryside, making it appealing for families and those who might not be traditional campers.

As the world around us began to change, with people seeking escapes from busy urban environments, we saw the perfect opportunity to return to Yorkshire and pursue this dream. The search for the right location was challenging, but after exploring many options, we found the perfect spot at the edge of the Yorkshire Wolds. The smallholding we discovered was not only picturesque but also provided ample space to set up glamping pods while maintaining the tranquillity and beauty of the surroundings.

Once the move was confirmed and we returned to Yorkshire, the next step was designing and building the pods. We wanted to reflect the local landscape and wildlife, making our guests feel connected to the nature around them. After extensive research, we partnered with MiPod, a manufacturer close to home, which allowed us to be hands-on during the build process and ensure every detail was just right.

Each of our four pods is named after dales in the region—Hundle Dale, Mingle Dale, Deep Dale, and Worm Dale—paying homage to the unique character of the Yorkshire Wolds. To further enhance the sense of place, we decided to theme each pod around the local wildlife that can be spotted at Bugthorpe Grange. The hares, pheasants, dragonflies, and foxes that often visit the area have become central to the identity of the pods, offering guests a chance to immerse themselves in the natural beauty of the region.

With the groundwork complete, tree planting, and paths laid, the final touches were made inside the pods to ensure they offered both comfort and style. When Bugthorpe Grange Glamping officially opened, we were fortunate to welcome our first guests with good weather and a fully booked first night—a sign that our efforts had paid off!

Now, over a year later, Bugthorpe Grange Glamping continues to grow and evolve, with positive feedback from our guests motivating us to keep improving and refining the experience. Though the journey has been full of challenges, it has also been incredibly rewarding, and we are thrilled to offer a peaceful retreat in a place so close to our hearts.
