Visiting Wildlife at Bugthorpe Grange

At Bugthorpe Grange, we celebrate the rich tapestry of wildlife that surrounds our glamping pods. Each pod is themed around the enchanting creatures that can be spotted in the area, making your stay a delightful opportunity to connect with nature. From the playful hare to the cunning fox, let’s explore the inspiration behind each pod theme and the fascinating wildlife you can encounter during your visit.

Each of our pods has a different wildlife theme, we chose our themes based off of wildlife we often encounter here at Bugthorpe Grange, which led us to:

Hares in Hundle Dale
Pheasants in Mingle Dale
Dragonflies in Deep Dale
Foxes in Worm Dale

In addition to these themed pods, Bugthorpe Grange is also home to a barn owl, often spotted gliding silently through the fields at dusk. Known for their heart-shaped faces and haunting calls, barn owls are primarily nocturnal hunters, preying on small mammals like voles and mice.

During your stay at Bugthorpe Grange, take time to explore the natural beauty surrounding our glamping pods. Bring your binoculars for birdwatching or stroll through the fields to spot hares. Each pod at Bugthorpe Grange Glamping offers not just a comfortable place to stay, but also a connection to the wildlife that thrives in this beautiful part of Yorkshire.

Hares: Did you know that hares are not the same as rabbits? Hares are generally larger and have longer legs and ears. They also give birth to fully furred young, known as leverets, which are able to hop around shortly after birth!

Pheasants: Pheasants are known for their striking plumage and courtship displays. Male pheasants, with their iridescent feathers, engage in elaborate rituals to attract females, including puffing up their chests and spreading their tails.

Dragonflies: Dragonflies have been around for over 300 million years and are some of the fastest insects in the world, capable of flying at speeds up to 35 miles per hour. They are also exceptional hunters, preying on mosquitoes and other small insects in mid-air!

Foxes: Foxes are known for their playful behaviour and intelligence. They communicate using a variety of vocalizations, from barks to screams, and they can even adapt their hunting techniques based on their surroundings. Their ability to thrive in both rural and urban environments makes them a fascinating species to observe.
